This is one of my more difficult and seldom played songs (hence all of the blunders!), but I thought I’d try my hands at it today. I've been getting back into the swing of daily practice for the past few days, after a month or so of not playing much. I'm trying to ramp up to a recording period, so I'm practicing my songs again. Yet again.
I think this one sounds like the soundtrack to a jolly old time inside a cave. Hence the name. It is fitting that I play the song in my own cave. My junk cave.
This one uses a right hand technique called “economy picking”, where I'm picking some notes and hammering on and pulling off many more, sometimes pulling off with a pull-through to make the note resonate without being plucked. That, and the pedal1 on D, which is variable in rhythm throughout the song. I use a lot of pedal in my songs.
It's a tricky one, but I figure that since I came up with it about 2 years ago now (wow), I should still be able to play it. I suppose I discovered today that's marginal!! There’s a whole section of the song I’ve forgotten completely and will have to dig up old phone recordings….
I’ll keep practicing it (for a bit. I get bored).
I'm wearing my Buzzcocks (1977 Orgasm Addict) t-shirt.
Here I am posing with guitars in my burgeoning new practice space.
