Song 2. “Radiate”. Phew, this was a little tricky. Going in, I had lyrics/vocal melody and rhythm guitar parts, but no song structure, bass or lead guitar.
My intention here is to get my ideas down, then I can refine them later. If I can get the tracks down and cobbled into workable songs, then I’ve achieved my initial goal. Then, I will learn music production software properly and make an album proper. I think this makes sense for me.
It took me a while to settle on a way to start and end the song, whether or not to include the middle 16 bars (the “we need to feed” part), and what the lead guitar should be doing. In the end, the bass almost mimics the rhythm guitar, and I’m not 100% happy with the lead guitar part (it’s a little simple and boring to play, and it gets a bit repetitive). The drums are simple (yes, very similar to the last song!) and definitely need work.
But, in the spirit of this being a ‘demo’, and in the interests of moving on to song 3, it is what it is for now and I’m kinda happy with it.
