This was the first demo song I recorded, and now I have a little experience under my belt, I wanted to give it another go. I’m calling this the ‘album version’ because, while still a demo, this is what I consider to be the final demo version. It’s not perfect, but nothing ever is. And I am far from a perfectionist.
It is re-recorded in A, so my vocal can go lower, and I can play on 7-string B-standard guitar (and E standard tuning bass). It’s now two guitars playing basically the same lead parts, rather than a rhythm and lead, which I found too busy. The production is more consistent with the later songs. I redid everything from scratch, starting with drums, adding guitar, then vocals, then bass, then I slowed it down, recorded vocals, sped it up again, and re-recorded guitar and bass again. That was my process. I took one day. I changed it a little, shortening the solo in the middle a tad. Well, I did have to transcribe it to another key, and learn that part on the guitar instead, so I didn’t fancy the longer solo. I think the shorter one is better anyway.
I like it. It’s a little ‘darker’, the bass pops, the solo is still chaotic and raw, the vocals are not as annoying. Job done, and moving onto the next one.
Where have I been for the past month? Well, I started to record 2 new songs for the next solo album (ha!), then stopped what I was doing to be in a hardcore punk band for a week (ha!), and I recorded a solo doom metal+spoken word 4-track EP! More on all that later …
