Should I make a cover album of retro computer game songs?
A rollercoaster of emotions courtesy of the Amstrad CPC
When you are the moon, you don’t play a lot of computer games, but what you do know, you like.
When I was a young moon, we had an Amstrad CPC 464 computer - the one with the green screen and the tape deck that took forever to load the game. I remember liking the opening and game music more than the games themselves, which I never had much patience for, except the Snooker game.
The music is pure nostalgia. Loads of arpeggios. I like this music so much that I’m tempted to make a cover album of the following 10 songs. It would be challenging…. Who’s with me?
Platoon. Perfect album opener. Dark and moody, but will make you move with the jagged rhythm section and smooth melody line.
Robocop 1 and Robocop 2. The first one keeps the dark and brooding vibe, and the second takes it up a gear or twelve, keeping up the interest heading into song 4
Grand Prix Simulator. For dancing your socks off.
Black Beard. Keeps the dance party going!
Saboteur 1. Back to darker themes, but the syncopated staccato rhythm is groovy
Saboteur 2. Action thriller where there is a chase into a club onto the dance floor, then a car chase
Cauldron. Back to the dark. The album is an emotional rollercoaster.
Zynaps. Clap-along sci-fi dance party
and a perfect way to end the album, the classic Space Harrier. Epic outro with a ultra positive vibe.
10 songs. All on bass and guitar and maybe keys … I’d need to get and learn keys. I may need help, but I may need to do this.
