I recently started working on a new song, “Push me out to sea” and I thought I'd record some progress.
The song now has lyrics, and a melody that I can sing (but I can’t yet sing it and play it on guitar at the same time, at least in way I want to share… need to get there).
It’s about dreaming of giving up under the sheer weight of a task, wanting to just float away. But, I’d want to have all my music mp3s* on my phone….
The guitar part is now little better, with a beat. I had some time to record a live version, but I couldn't think how to end it.
I think it needs one more riff to finish the song. I've come up with a half dozen riffs involving that low B on Douglas here, but none of them stick. In fact I had what I thought was a great one worked out for this video recording, but forgot it in the moment. The moon needs a new phase.
I write songs slowly, usually several at a time. This song is on the lighter side. It feels like rock. Also a little Celtic. Also a but psych? I'm not sure. The moon cannot classify or gauge his own music.
Next step is to record it using the computer, with bass and vocals and such. For me, the boring part. I've been avoiding recording demos for months, in fact a year, but I need to brush up on those Ableton skills again …
*I tend to buy music from bandcamp, 7digital, record company sites, band websites, things like that. I also buy some vinyl, usually directly from bands at gigs. I try to limit my streaming, because the artist should be paid better. Not being preachy or anything. I am the moon, and the moon has to have a creed.
